The Nonantum Resort: Kennebunkport, Maine wedding Jessica and Christopher 09.13.09

Jessica and Christopher were married on a Sunday afternoon at the breathtaking Nonantum Resort in Kennebunkport, Maine. Jessica, is creative down to her last fiber and she should be— she’s a Los Angeles textile designer. The couple booked me a year ago— loving the style and color on my website. I love working for creative couples. It is a huge compliment when other professional artists see something in my work and make a connection. It also allows me to go a bit out of the wedding norm. Game on!

Jessica at some point in the year, emailed me a cutey picture of herself and Christopher for her Blush file. I opened the email and there she was— this smiley, happy woman with a wild, wild, wonderful hair and her arms wrapped tight around Chris. I knew they’d be a treat to work with! It just got better when I met them on one of their visits to Maine for wedding planning. Loved them! We chatted like crazy old friends laughing at east vs. west coast language and lifestyle!

We planned out Jessica’s agenda, going through all of the intricate details for the event. She designed everything! I mean everything— the invites, the centerpieces, the ornaments around the cake, the seating cards— with very elaborate custom design work. (Details shots below including her polaroid transfer reception book (loved this, possible 2010 hot idea) and seating cards with keys in honor of Christopher’s last name.)

Their Sunday afternoon event presented a fun opportunity. Sunday weddings tend to be a bit more tame. It’s harder to get people to dance on a Sunday afternoon then say a Saturday night. Not that guests won’t, it just tends to take a bit more of  a challenge.  Jessica and Christopher knew their friends were big dancers so no problem there… but I thought it would be a great time to bring in a very minimalistic, simple photo booth. It gave other guests another activity. Their crazy LA friends would get into it too for sure. Oh boy did they! Originally, Jess and I talked about a couple ideas for the set, but came down to just a white plain backdrop and just a few silly props. It was extra work for all involved, but so worth it and fun for all! It was a big hit! (See a few shots below.)

Helluv wedding Jessica and Christopher! There is an ridiculous amount of great photography in your collection. I can’t wait for you to see everything! For now, here’s a taste! Take a look:

* A special thanks to the amazing Kevin Morris for (more than) second shooting with me on this wedding event. Fantastic work and perfection on the job! Thank you Kevin! You’re amazing. Welcome to Maine!

Jessica’s bouquet was a wonderful mix of colors. I think this is how to do peachy shades right.

Lemon basil non-acholic drink. Yum. Gorgeous cake designed by one of their close friend who happen to do culinary work in Boston. That’s a friend with benefits! Gorgeous cake! Skeleton keys attached to seating cards. This looked really great. Adding textures really adds to the experience and feel of an event.
