Ben’s family summer in Maine on a tiny quaint island called Gem Island. It sits in New Harbor, Maine — part of Pemaquid Point. His family rent the island for several weeks to relax and unplug. So what are the odds that Ben would eventually meet, fall in love with and propose to a beautiful woman named, of all things— Gemma. Straight out of a storybook, Ben and Gemma married and honeymooned on Gem Island. It was water, it was warm, it was so, so, so very romantic. It was just right.
Ben, Gemma and I were a right fit, right from the start. I just love these two crazy kids! All three of us have journalism backgrounds and a similar vision for their wedding. To my surprise though, the rugged little Gem Island the couple described turned into quite a romantic sea-themed wonderland. It was more beautiful than I expected. Guests came over on two large lobster boats, they felt the sea breeze as they watched the heartfelt ceremony, and danced dockside at The Contented Sole. It was a true Maine experience!
The Maine wedding vendor hero of the day was definitely Mike, of Bittersweet Landing Boatyard in South Bristol, who drove and coordinated all the guests arrival via boat to and from Gemma Island. He made extra efforts for Ben and Gemma. FYI…transferring guests over water on multiple boats can be a logistical challenge, but he made process flawless. He also brought out an awesome 81-year-old wooden speed boat for the couple’s getaway. We zipped around the water running in between the guest’s lobster boats— totally showing off. I got amazing images of the couple having fun! Their day was so fun! Personally, I felt like I was in a James Bond film. Dude, I actually squealed with excitement! LOL.
Take a look at the fun we had …. and my gorgeous Gemma!
One of my favorite pics was this layered image. I love the light and the girls getting ready together. A classic wedding morning scene.
Gemm’s vows to Ben…sealed and then opened on her day.
Ben made hundreds of these nautical charms and bouyees to tie around the island and along the dock.

How adorable is Gemma with her Dad? Love the blusher!
Married on Gemma Island! Guests threw eco-fetti to celebrate!
Love this picture of Gemma and Ben hitchin’ a ride after the service. Love Maine docks in general… best pictures! Always adds an element of texture.
Gemma and Ben wave to their guests in a wooden 81-year old boat named Thrill! This was a super time!
The crowd goes wild at the reception for Gemma and her man.
Gemma’s bridesmaids give a cute toast.
Gemma and Ben are really funny together. This was one of the softer, genuine looks between them that I caught during their their first dance.
The couple’s rings dangling on one of the nautical ropes that decorated their wedding venue.
Their sea-themed cake.
Boys behaving badly. Shots!
The couple under the single string of lights that lined the dock. Ben and Gemma, my thoughts are with you for a happy, joyous life together! I had a really good time with you, your friends and especially your families. Great day! There’s so many good pictures so get ready!
