Meet 2012: Mike and Jessica engaged in Portland

OMG! Mike and Jessica are fabulous, fun together. I met Mike through my hubby Brian… they were in a business networking group together. After spending a just small amount a time with him, I knew drinks and mayhem were in our future. To boot, he was our neighbor and lived down the block with his fiance. Enter Jessica— who I really met when she hired me. Love Jessica. Hysterical, gorgeous, very real and the best thing for Mike. They are a perfect odd couple! We laughed all over Portland together during this engagement session. We ended up at drinks and dinner at Havana South in Old Port. Can’t wait for their 2012 wedding! Dudes, when are you guys coming over to mi casa? Jessica, sangria?

The new portrait website is up! Welcome our new photography hire Stepheney Collins who will continue to develop this new line of maternity, newborn, baby and families here at Blush. We are very proud of her. She climbed the ranks here from intern, to project manager, to assistant and now to her own work in the studio.

Maine maternity: Meet Laura

Laura and Grant are expecting a brand new baby girl in just days. They have two great names picked out… but I’m not telling. At eight and a half months, maternity sessions are not easy. It’s a lot of work on our mom-to-be! But Grant and Laura did a fantastic job in the studio together! I am so happy for you guys! Enjoy looking at these sneak peaks! Gorgeous!

Cheverus High School Class of 2010

Cheverus High School seniors (135+) gathered on the steps of Portland’s City Hall for an official class photo. The Class of 2010 graduates tonight in a ceremony at Merrill Auditorium. Congrats guys! Hope you have a fun evening. Thank you for being THE best large group I’ve ever photographed! Wonderful job!

Maine maternity: Meet Suzi and Gavin

Just in time for mother’s day— a great maternity photos with Suzi and Gavin. The new parents aren’t telling their chosen boy or girl names to anyone— except for that slip by Gavin to the neighbors. But that was early in the game, no one else. The two giggled while telling me their story in the photo studio this weekend. Professionals by day and my smart aleck pals by night, Gavin and Suzi are getting ready for their first child with grace and a ton of humor. The most challenging task to prep for baby— their home. Their cute fixer-upper house started as a labor of love. Now it’s a race to finish up before labor— Suzi’s labor. I included our parents-to-be’s hands in a pic below… check out Gavin’s rough hands forming that heart. That’s the hands of someone doing a ton of remodeling! I love it! Great thing to remember later. These were some of my favorite pics. Enjoy!

As a couple they made great subjects. Suzi exudes quiet, strong self assurance. I love Suzi’s look. Her face & style is just so striking. I love Suzi. She is so my kind of gal. We both think pregnancy isn’t always so warm and fuzzy. It comes with some aches! Gavin is the most lovable, boyish, fun, huggable Kiwi! (Kiwi is the nickname used internationally for people from New Zealand^[1], as well as being a relatively common self-reference. The name derives from the kiwi, a flightless bird which is native to, and the national symbol of, New Zealand. It is not considered offensive.) Together they are a very cool couple.

Gavin and Suzi, , my good friends, you will make fabulous parents. My best to you both on your newest adventure! You look marvelous!

Maine baby: Meet Nicholas

Meet Nicholas. Nicholas is the sweet baby boy of my very dear friends Maisy and Kyle, who recently moved to Boston. They came north for the day for a bit of baby photography and to see our downtown studio. My good friends have grown into great parents. The three of us danced and behaved badly back in the day at 80′s night as crazy, young journalists. Now, Maisy and Kyle are making their own baby food and keeping schedules tight for proper nap times. It is true what people say: A baby changes everything. Baby Nicholas is a lucky, young fellow to have them as a team working for him. I think these photos say it all. Little Brobee (Nicholas’s nickname … from the Yo Gabba Gabba show) is always happy. Always. He has a smile to die for! He is loving and sweet. He is a good eater, a snuggler, a good sleeper, and at his teething worst— he’s not bad. What a chubby, yummy baby!

I am proud to be your Auntie B kiddo! I look forward to watching you grow up with my Maggie and will happily photograph you any day!

Meet !Zing

!Zing swung by the studio to upgrade their look. This exceptional choral group is more jazz oriented and challenging than the other choices available in Portland, Maine. We all had a magical time. At their late night session, the wine was flowing and the voices roaring. Somehow, in between, we worked together to get this sweet gem of a photo. Love it! Congrats guys on being the largest group we’ve ever photographed in the studio, to date. Group shots of this size are monumentally challenging for all the reason you can image– space, size, blinks– but they worked hard to make this a hit! Thanks to Gerard, my good friend and owner of Porte 4, for introducing me to all of your new friends! Hope it gives the new website some sparkle. Enjoy!

Lori and Whitney: Mother’s Day is coming!

Whitney, a 2010 Blush bride, gave her mother Lori a fun birthday gift this year— a mother – daughter session. Photographing this duet was just so fascinating. In one sitting, I literally saw the snapshots of their lifetime together unfold. I photographed the small kisses mama Lori gave Whitney as a toddler. I captured the tight hugs that a now very grown-up Whitney gives to Lori on visits home from college. It is such an interesting time in both of their lives as they plan this wedding together.

It’s funny, Lori and Whit also happen to be very dear friends of mine so our session was just hysterical! This tends to happen when you know your subjects well… no one can stop laughing. But this quiet image really spoke to me about their mother – daughter bond. Thanks Lori and Whitney! Love you! Can’t wait for you to see the rest! Super job!

blush bonds family session: My Islanders

It is a special thing for a photographer to be invited back into a family’s life. Two years ago, I photographed Jane and Nate’s wedding on Little Diamond Island. And last Friday, I found myself on the family boat heading there again for a special blush bonds family session. My friends Nate and Jane have obviously settled into marriage life very well. Nate’s brother John brought his fiance, Melanie, to celebrate the Fourth on their Maine island. They’ll be married soon in Florida. Dodo and Paul, parents of this fabulous funky bunch, looked proud and happy to have both sons home with their two daughter-in-laws for the holiday. Dodo raves endlessly about her new daughters! (read on below)

Everyone was in the the spirit of the Island. There is a sacred Islander way of life, you know. I am not at liberty to reveal these ways— but I can say bare feet and alcohol are often involved. Our shoot was silly at times and a ton of fun. I made these casual arty family moments and some more traditional family shots too —that I just love. Great job to you guys!

I left reluctantly after a glass of wine with my friends. Sigh. Totally great afternoon! Dodo is that offer of adoption still on the table? Count me in!

Week of super BIG news: it’s a family affair

First comes love, then comes marriage, then that sweet belly and that cute little baby in that adorable baby carriage… sigh. Before you know it, you’re a family.

Welcome new product line:

blush bellies™ is photography that is dear to my heart. Maternity photographs are challenging to do really well. It is a personal time in a woman’s life, so it is imperative to earn trust and keep it fun. It is my honor take maternity to a new level with our new location and studio.

To the left is Jennifer and David, dear friends of mine and also a Blush Imagery wedding couple. They just gave birth to their baby boy, Ryker, May 13. Congrats guys!

blush babes™ photography sessions are a blast. Before my own daughter, Maggie (now 2) was born I did gorgeous black and white baby sessions and loved every minute. Now I am in the trenches as a parent too. My eye has matured. Now I’m a mom, plus a photographer. The time when they are small is so scared. Can’t wait to have moms and dads in the studio to play, talk and work. It’s a lifestyle baby!

blush bods™ just had, had, had to be done! These creative, for-his-eyes-only images are a fashion-passion of mine! I did these once upon a time, but only at a bride’s request. This fun, fearless Maine boudoir photography session is now available at the Blush Imagery™ studio for any bride … and other women who dare to share.
